Behind the Artists Inspiration: This image was created straight out of my own imagination, with my Metis heritage close to my heart. “Chief” is a horse I raised with my family on the Go Hard Ranch. With his powerful name and his unique white face I knew he was the perfect subject for the Indigenous War Horse I wanted to pay testament to. This image elevated the awareness of my artwork as it has spoken to so many hearts and is one of my most recognized images. It was my very first magazine cover for the Western Horse Review and is featured in an Art Gallery in Texas and sold across the United States. Each marking I painted on his face has incredible meaning and is strategically placed to bring my interpretation of the long ago war horses of the past to life.
