Behind the Artists Inspiration:
While on a Heli skiing photoshoot for Warren Miller Films, flying with Arctic Heli skiing we landed into one of the most intense and inspiring blizzards I had ever witnessed. We ended up being snowed in and were able to witness these incredible horses trying who were determined to survive the weather with their butts to the wind. All roads were closed, and helicopters could not fly, as cabin fever set in on day three of the storm Jess McMillan and myself trekked out to see these incredibly resilient horses. As we set out on our touring skis the horses did not look that far away, we had to go down into a valley, cross a bridge and then hike back up to reach the horses. It took nearly two hours and as we approached the horses were wary, so we had to take our time as not to spook them. We became acquainted with these hardy horses and in return they gave us the gift of photographing them. Their flowing manes blowing in the wintry cold they were spectacular to witness. We were on a heli ski shoot for Warren Miller films working with Arctic Heli skiing. As soon as we landed one of the most intense blizzards I have ever seen set in. We got completely snowed in. Road closed. Helicopters couldn’t fly. We could see these horses across the valley. They did not move. Two days. Three days. Just standing with their butts to the wind. Cabin fever set in on day three and Jess McMillan and myself headed out on our touring skis to go see the horses. It didn’t look that far away. We needed to go down valley first to a bridge to cross the river and then hike back up to the horses. It took close to two hours. As we got closer, they would move. We moved slowly. We made friends. And then the horses gifted us with some amazing modeling. You’d think they were in a 80’s metal band with that beautiful flowing hair.

From the Brand Owner:
No matter how impossible, unattainable, or unimaginable something may seem…if it’s meant to be, it’ll be. This is the best way I can explain looking back to how I got connected with Mike and his artwrok. This picture made it to the North Iceland tourism webpage (https://www.northiceland.is/en/what-to-see-do/activities/the-icelandic-horse) and as absurd has this may sound, this might be part of a very few pictures of Horses Mike took in his career. Talent, timing and connection with nature are the results of this masterpiece. I love everything else about this picture. Thank-you Mike for sharing your passion and your love for photography and for
supporting our vision with our KOUSa cushions!
